The mayor is naming Lisa Garcia as commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection. Garcia is an alum of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where she was in charge of matters involving New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and eight Tribal Nations. Garcia has also been a vocal critic and protested the Trump administration. Mamdani also appointed Sharun Goodwin as commissioner of the Department of Probation and Yume Kitasei as the commissioner of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services.
