Investment in NYC’s youth takes center stage this week as Mamdani rolled out a massive expansion of paid summer work for New Yorkers ages 14-24. Applications have opened for the city’s summer youth employment program, offering paid work for New Yorkers ages 14–24. At the same time, youth groups are pushing the City Council to pass the “Livable Futures” package, a set of five bills focused on protecting immigrant rights, fighting climate change, making housing more affordable, and ensuring safety for transgender people in city jails. The administration is now under pressure to back these community demands alongside its existing job programs, and build on the popularity with and promises to young voters during the campaign.
